SceneManager? Texture & Painting

I have a question, that seems to be stumping me.

I have created a project and implemented scene manager with lights and movable cubes.
Then I created a polygon and generated points from a height map.

The only way I saw to texture or paint any face, was to use the opengl_on_draw event. Which I did and the faces to the polygon rendered. However they were a generic color, not the one specified and had no lights applied to them.

How do I paint objects and have it register the lights from scene manager? or am I approaching this wrong?
