not getting OpenGL.GL_POINT to work

I'm not getting a point. I was able to get a square primitive, just not a point.. Suggestion?

            gl.Begin(OpenGL.GL_POINTS); //starts drawing of points
            gl.Vertex(1.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f);//upper-right corner
            gl.Vertex(-1.0f, -1.0f, 0.0f);//lower-left corner
            gl.End();//end drawing of points
